Engaging more than 70 researchers and educators in Istanbul, Alpha Ring saw strong interest in its Alpha-E fusion systems across teaching, research, and medical applications

ISTANBUL, Türkiye — October 19, 2026 — Alpha Ring International took part as a Gold Sponsor of IWPROBONO 2026, the International Workshop on Proton-Boron Nuclear Fusion: from Energy Production to Medical Applications, held October 5–8 at Yeditepe University in Istanbul.

Organized in the final year of the European COST Action PROBONO (CA21128), the workshop gathered leading researchers in proton-boron fusion, plasma physics, particle acceleration, and medical applications from institutions including ENEA, ELI Beamlines, Italy’s National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), the University of York, Politecnico di Milano, and the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Why It Matters

Proton-boron (p-¹¹B) fusion is attracting growing research interest because its primary reaction produces charged particles rather than neutrons. This offers potential advantages for energy conversion and reduced neutron-related challenges, although significant scientific and engineering hurdles remain. IWPROBONO brought many of the world’s most active p-¹¹B research groups into one room, making it a key venue for Alpha Ring to build relationships with future customers and collaborators.

Results for Alpha Ring

  • Broad reach: Through pre-event outreach, on-site conversations, and networking, the team engaged more than 70 researchers and educators, reaching the large majority of workshop participants.
  • A growing commercial pipeline: Approximately ten conversations were identified as qualified opportunities for Alpha-E, spanning fusion research, university teaching labs, plasma research, and medical applications.
  • A clear market need: Speakers repeatedly highlighted how difficult it is to confirm p-¹¹B fusion reactions and called for better, more standardized detector calibration. Alpha-E offers a controlled lab setting where research groups can generate experimental data and test their diagnostics.

Alpha-E: From the Teaching Lab to the Research Bench

Alpha-E is the world’s first AI-driven tabletop fusion education system. The Alpha-E family, including the Plasma, Prime, and Pro configurations, lets universities and research labs run hands-on fusion and plasma experiments on a lab bench. It is already in use at universities including Purdue University and Sofia University.

Looking Ahead

Istanbul was the first of three major scientific conferences for Alpha Ring this fall, followed by AAPPS-DPP2026 in Busan, Korea, and the APS Division of Plasma Physics annual meeting in Chicago. Alpha Ring is following up with the institutions it met in Istanbul and thanks Yeditepe University and the COST Action PROBONO organizers for hosting the workshop.
