Taipei hosted the 2026 Rotary International Convention from June 13–17, drawing more than 40,000 leaders from over 140 countries — the city’s first-time hosting since 1994. Alongside humanitarian service, this year’s convention spotlighted sustainable development and environmental protection.
Alpha Ring, exhibited Alpha-E, the world’s first desktop-scale nuclear fusion education and science demonstration designed for teaching, research and public engagement. Chairman Peter Kurz said Alpha-E combines fusion science, plasma physics, AI, and data analytics, giving students, researchers, and industry direct access to fusion concepts — laying the groundwork for training future fusion talent.
The exhibit showcased Taiwan’s innovation in fusion, semiconductors, AI, and new energy, moving fusion technology from the lab into public view and demonstrating neutron-free fusion’s safety, modularity, and efficiency to a global audience.
Kurz noted that as AI compute demand and decarbonization accelerate, the energy transition has reached a critical juncture; fusion, often called clean energy’s “holy grail,” has entered the hardware engineering phase, targeting commercial operation by 2030. Rooted in Taiwan, Alpha Ring has developed a zero-pollution hydrogen-boron neutron-free fusion technology. If fusion supplies 20–40% of Taiwan’s baseload power, Kurz estimates equipment investment could reach NT$2–7 trillion.
CEO Huang Hsin-mao said Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem, AI computing strength, and precision manufacturing make it uniquely positioned to lead fusion development, with Alpha Ring building a “national fusion team” spanning partners such as Etron and Italy’s EEI。
